SIMULATION OF COMMUNICATION AND COOPERATION IN COMPLEX ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURES
HEXgame
- 3-4 hours (+ discussion)
- 16-50 participants
HEXgame is a metaphor for a large organization. Players experience a highly engaging state management experience. They have very limited and hard-to-reach resources. They must negotiate at various levels of government, deal with local crises and public discontent. In a situation where communication is difficult, they have to manage wisely and perform leadership roles.
The HEXgame was developed in 1976 for UNESCO by a team of researchers led by Richard D. Duke. It was developed in response to an urgent need to educate a cadre of managers in the public and private sectors in Ghana. It was part of UNESCO’s program to promote development in Third World countries and attempt to solve their dramatic socio-economic problems.
Applications:
- Realizing the role of effective vertical and horizontal communication in the successful achievement of organizational goals,
- Demonstrate how activities at all levels of the organization are interdependent, with information scarcity compounding chaos and reducing efficiency in a situation of permanent uncertainty,
- Overcoming the silosity of withholding (not passing on) information,
- Agreement on specific solutions to support collaboration and information sharing within and across teams, to be applied "immediately" in the organization,
- Increased sense of shared responsibility for achieving the team goal,
Recommended for:
- Talent development programs in the organization - especially the opening or closing meetings of the program.
- Workshops for management.
Realizations for top management executives in cooperation with Game Changers Academy experts.
📌 The game was very interesting, intellectually and emotionally engaging, and it also showed the dynamics of relationships between different levels.
📌 This form of training allows for the involvement of each participant and the development of common goals and, in addition, is a lot of fun and shows the true faces of the participants.
📌 A safe space to test solutions.
