ChallengeA major European company has a new owner. Implementation of its new strategy requires:
- Realizing the objectives of the new business strategy
- Translating strategy into meaningful objectives in finance, sales and HR
- Commitment to develop around the new strategy
A set of coordination challenges and ambitious business goals were presented to the managers. The team needed an experience that would help them to successfully navigate a way through the process of new strategy implementation.
Managers from Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary took part in the game, providing them with a taste of real-life challenges. The participants had to fight for survival on the planet HEXLAND. In order to survive on the planet they had to develop ways to communicate, negotiate and manage conflict. Challenges arose in the form of unequal access to information, a mismatch of individual and collective goals and ever-increasing time pressure. In addition to this there were language barriers to overcome.
Several hours of intensive simulation experience provided the opportunity for information exchange, team integration, and familiarization with the specifics of the required change. Session summaries highlighted parallels between the game world and the reality of business, allowing participants to share their experiences and provide a starting point for debate and discussion.
